Disease pattern

"Poly" (from the Greek much, several) means that several peripheral nerves are affected simultaneously.

This disease is characterized by chronic inflammatory processes that degenerate the nerves over years.

The most common symptoms described are paresthesia (unpleasant but not necessarily painful bodily sensations that cannot be attributed to corresponding stimuli) and sensitivity disorders (partial or complete loss of sensitivity in certain areas of the body).

Motor deficits may also occur (usually in the later stages). Peripheral nerves may become sensitive to pressure and there may be "trophic" disturbances ("nutritional" disturbance in the tissue due to damage to autonomic nerves).

Thus, the disease causes loss of sensation, weakness, or both, often first in the feet and hands and then in the arms, legs, or trunk. Polyneuropathy can be acute (with sudden onset) or chronic (slow development, often over a long period of time).

Causes

Causes of toxic polyneuropathy

In acute polyneuropathy, the onset of the disease can be attributed to infections (e.g., due to a toxin originating from bacteria, seen in diphtheria), autoimmune reactions (such as in Guillain-Barré syndrome), or exposure to other toxins (e.g., tricresyl phosphates or thallium). Symptoms often start in both legs and rapidly progress to the arms.

The causes of chronic disease courses are often unclear. These courses can be observed in diabetics or excessive alcohol consumption (neurotoxic effect of alcohol).

Another variety of causes (e.g., other chronic autoimmune diseases, infections, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, genetic predisposition) are also thought to be primarily due to the numerous environmental toxins such as organic solvents and pesticides that come from our diets.

Therapy

INUSpheresis® as a successful therapy option for toxicity-related polyneuropathy

INUSpheresis®  specifically filters out environmental toxins and pro-inflammatory molecules. Many, often decisive, causative environmental toxins/pathogenic proteins can be removed from the body. This leads to significant relief of the organism.

By eliminating pro-inflammatory substances, INUSpheresis® ultimately also has a pain-relieving effect and relieves the nervous system.
