Risk for Alzheimer's disease

New findings could help pave the way for early detection and potential treatment for people who are heavily exposed to the pesticide.
The study, led by researchers at Florida International University (FIU), reveals a mechanism linking the pesticide DDT to Alzheimer's disease.
The study, published in Environmental Health Perspectives, shows how the persistent environmental pollutant DDT causes increased levels of toxic beta-amyloid, which forms the characteristic amyloid plaques found in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease.
The study further shows that DDT is an environmental risk factor for Alzheimer's disease.
