Precision medicine approach to cardiometabolic risk factors in therapeutic apheresis.

Lipoprotein apheresis effectively reduces cardiovascular risks by lowering lipid levels and removing pro-inflammatory factors in severe lipid disorders.

Abstract

Summary of the study

Lipoprotein apheresis (LA) is currently the most effective intervention to achieve maximal lipid reduction in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and lipoprotein(a) hyperlipidemia.

Although lipoprotein apheresis (LA) is an invasive method, it has few side effects and the best results in preventing further serious cardiovascular events. It has been suggested that the highly significant reduction in cardiovascular complications in patients with severe lipid disorders achieved by LA is mediated by the strong reduction in lipid levels and the removal of other proinflammatory and proatherogenic factors.
