Autoimmune diseases are a malfunction of the immune system in which cells and organs are attacked.
00/00
Autoimmune diseases are diseases in which the body's own structures are wrongly "attacked" by the body's immune defense system.
The immune defense is directed against various parts of the healthy body, with serious negative consequences.
The German Autoimmune Foundation lists the following autoimmune diseases:
alopecia areata
anemia
antiphospholipid syndrome
arteriitis temporalis, arteriitis cranialis atherosclerosis
autoimmune insufficiency
Churg-Strauss syndrome
ulcerative colitis
CREST syndrome
dermatomyositis
fibromyalgia
gastritis, chronic autoimmune Goodpasture's syndrome
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)
Hashimoto's thyroiditis
Hepatitis, autoimmune
Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
Cold agglutinin disease cryoglobulinemia
Lichen sclerosus (LS)
Lyme-arthritis
Mixed connective tissue disease
Addison's disease
Graves' disease
Bekhterev's disease
Behçet's disease
Crohn's disease
Wegener's disease
Werlhof's disease
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Myasthenia gravis (MG)
Pemphigus vulgaris
Polymyalgia rheumatica
Polymyositis
Polyneuropathy
Psoriasis
Reiter's syndrome
Rheumatic fever
Rheumatoid arthritis
Sarcoidosis
Sjögren's-Syndrome
Scleroderma
Stiff-Man Syndrome (SMS)
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
Takayasu Arteritis
Type I Diabetes Mellitus
Vitiligo (Leucopathia Acquisita)
Celiac Disease

The healthy immune defense of an organism identifies foreign molecules (antigens) and triggers a corresponding desired defense reaction.
Thus, degenerated or virus-infected cells can be recognized as foreign, based on their superficial structure to attack (dock) and destroy them by elements of the immune system (macrophages, T cells).
We have two immune systems: on the one hand, we have an innate (non-specific) defense against pathogens; on the other hand, the acquired (specific or adaptive) immune defense, which is characterized by great adaptability.
The body "learns" an immune response against new pathogens and mutations. An immunological memory is formed.
Autoimmune diseases are diseases caused by the immune or defense system of one's own body.
With INUSpheresis® therapy, malformed autoimmune antibodies can be washed out together with the inflammatory mediators.

Immune reactions can become misdirected immune defenses
As a consequence of a misguided control and regulation of the body's own immunological response, however, "autoimmunity" can also develop, i.e. a failure of the body's own immune defenses due to a loss of tolerance to the body's own tissue structures.
The immune system makes a "mistake", so to speak. Intact components of the organism are attacked, the defense system can no longer always distinguish between "foreign" and "self" (auto). Our organism generates an "auto" immunity.
In organ-specific autoimmune diseases, this misdirected immune defense is directed against a specific organ; if it is directed against the entire body system, we speak of systemic autoimmune diseases.
If immune responses to the body's own antigens (which are not infectious per se) then take place over longer periods of time, chronic inflammatory tissue damage occurs, which in turn can lead to the destruction of entire affected organs in severe cases.

The causes of such pronounced diseases are varied and complex.
The interaction of different factors can also favor the development of an autoimmune disease.
However, the life-sustaining immune function is always disturbed to the extent that the immunological balance is impeded, virtually overshoots and gets "out of control".

In the treatment of autoimmune diseases, medicine usually strives for the basic principle of regulating or suppressing the body's own defense reaction.
Drugs are often administered as immunosuppressants or corticosteroids are frequently used, which have a predominantly anti-inflammatory effect.
Unfortunately, these drugs have a variety of undesirable side effects.
Certainly of importance is the preventive effect of INUSpheresis® blood washing, in which environmental toxins and pro-inflammatory molecules are specifically filtered out - an essential step towards maintaining a healthy immune balance.
In the context of manifest diseases, the resulting malformed autoimmune antibodies are washed out with INUSpheresis® together with the inflammatory mediators.
INUSpheresis® has been shown to reduce significant inflammatory markers and thus influences the overall therapeutic efficacy and an associated improvement in the general condition.
